Because they are inexpensive and low maintenance, laminate countertops are a very sound economical decision.
Many times our customers have opted to spend more of their budget on the cabinetry and use a laminate countertop "for now". Planning to upgrade to quartz or granite in the future.
In the past few years, laminates have come leaps and bounds from where they were. High-definition laminates are being made with a thicker surface. Which makes them more durable and gives them more depth of color.
Integrated sinks are now available with laminates too. You can use stainless steel or a colored resin sink. Previously laminate could only accommodate drop-in sink.
Now for the downside of laminates. It's nearly impossible to fix a nick or cut that's gone through the surface. They are the least heat resistant countertop material. Comparatively, they have a short lifespan.
The price point of laminate countertops makes up for the disadvantages. Laminates do make a good quality interim countertop, especially if the budget's tight.
