Stainless steel countertops are right at home in a sleek contemporary kitchen. Although they aren't my style, they look great in the right setting.
Stainless steel countertops were used exclusively in commercial applications. But that's changing as more people want the clean look with its other advantages.
Stainless steel is antibacterial, heat/cold proof, durable and easy to maintain.
The disadvantages are the scratching, denting and staining that can occur. Light surface scratches can usually be buffed out. Denting and staining are a bit more difficult to correct.
Bleach cleaners shouldn't be used on a stainless steel countertop, as they can corrode the surface. Acidic foods left on the counters can leave stains.
The best way to care for this counter is to wash it with warm soapy water, rinse and towel dry. You'll always want to dry a stainless steel counter, because they show water spots when left to air dry.
I'm not a huge fan of the stainless steel tops, but that doesn't mean you can't be. They look very impressive in the right setting and don't require too much maintenance.
